Estimated Duration: One-year full-time contract
Pay Range : $70.00 to $86.58 per hour
TVA Per Diem: $1500 / month
Position Description
As a Civil Design Specialist, this role develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others. The position assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluations, tests, products, or equipment when necessary data are insufficient or when confirmation by testing is advisable.
The individual typically performs as a staff advisor and consultant in a technical specialty, specific type of facility or equipment, or program function. The role applies intensive and diversified knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices across broad areas of assignment and related fields.
This position requires independent decision-making on engineering problems and methods and includes representing the organization in conferences to address significant technical questions and to plan and coordinate work. The role involves the use of advanced techniques, including the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of civil engineering and related disciplines.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Develops and evaluates civil engineering plans, designs, and criteria for assigned projects
Assesses feasibility and technical soundness of engineering proposals, tests, products, or equipment
Provides technical consultation and advisory support within area of specialty
Applies advanced civil engineering principles across diverse and complex assignments
Makes independent engineering decisions and recommendations
Represents the organization in technical meetings and conferences
Plans, coordinates, and supports engineering work activities
Utilizes advanced engineering techniques and adapts established theories and practices as needed
Skills and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or other related engineering degree from an accredited curriculum, plus related continuing education
Progressive experience demonstrating advanced knowledge and expertise in civil engineering
Ability to apply diversified and advanced civil engineering principles and practices
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and independent decision-making skills
Ability to serve as a technical advisor or consultant and represent the organization professionally
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
Master’s degree
Membership in professional and technical engineering societies
