Mechanical Engineer (NSSS Component Design & Materials)    

Location: Remote

Start: ASAP

Duration: 12 months


POSITION SUMMARY:  The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) design engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. The person in this position performs design and stress analyses of pressure vessels and piping in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III, and applicable regulatory requirements. All work within the NSSS design organization is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Possesses excellent knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards and regulations.


Performs and documents evaluations of components to the rules and requirements of Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Utilizes the results from these evaluations to optimize component(s) design.


Prepare and/or review engineering specifications, CAD models, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of components, systems, and structures associated with the NSSS.


Interprets scope and project requirements.


Acquires, maintains and develops training qualifications. Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff members in areas associated with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Design Specifications.


Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams.


Performs other duties as assigned.

Quality Assurance:  Commits to the understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1.


MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:


Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required.  An advanced degree is preferred. A professional engineer (P.E.) certification is required.


Experience: A minimum of 10 years of full-time relevant working experience is required.  Candidates must be able to demonstrate extensive ASME Code Section III NB-3200 and NG-3200 knowledge, Subsection NF knowledge is also preferred. Design experience for ASME Code components is required, ASME Code Design Specification experience is required, ASME Design Specification certifying experience is preferred.


Industry Requirements:  Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
