Position Summary:

We are seeking (2) experienced Technical Procedure Writers with hands-on nuclear field experience to support the Deep Fission Small Modular Reactor project. This is not a desk-bound editing role—we need someone who has walked the plant floor, understands system operations, and can translate complex technical concepts into clear, executable procedures that keep workers safe and compliant.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, review, and revise technical procedures including operating procedures, maintenance procedures, surveillance procedures, and test procedures for SMR systems

  • Collaborate with design engineers, operations staff, and subject matter experts to ensure procedures accurately reflect system design and operational requirements

  • Ensure procedures comply with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and client specifications

  • Participate in procedure validation and verification activities

  • Review design documents, vendor manuals, and technical specifications to extract relevant information for procedure development

  • Identify and resolve technical discrepancies between design documentation and field conditions

  • Support procedure review committees and incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders

  • Maintain procedure configuration management and document control requirements

What We're NOT Looking For:

  • Pure technical editors without field experience

  • Writers who have only worked on procedure formatting or grammar checks

  • Candidates without engineering backgrounds who don't understand the "why" behind the steps

  • Anyone who hasn't personally witnessed procedures being executed in a nuclear environment

Education / Experience Requirements:

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in nuclear power operations, maintenance, or engineering roles with direct plant floor experience

  • Minimum 3 years of technical writing experience developing operating, maintenance, or surveillance procedures for nuclear facilities

  • Demonstrated experience writing procedures that have been implemented and used in operational environments

  • Prior involvement in plant startups, modifications, or system commissioning preferred

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • Advanced degree preferred

Technical Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of nuclear plant systems, components, and operations

  • Familiarity with small modular reactor technology and advanced reactor designs highly preferred

Skills:

  • Proficiency with procedure development software and document control systems

  • Excellent communication skills to interface with engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel

Physical Requirements: Must be capable of climbing, walking, kneeling, bending, and lifting as part of daily job responsibilities. Ability to lift a minimum of 35 – 60 lbs.
