About the role:


BCP is seeking a motivated professional with expertise in power system design to support our energy infrastructure microgrid projects. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects

  • Knowledge of power generation, microgrids, central plants, and associated balance of plant equipment

  • Experience working with contractors and vendors to develop and execute energy projects

  • Understanding of project financing structures


This is a "solutions-oriented" and "end-to-end" role that requires managing both internal and external stakeholders to achieve the design goals and support the business model investments.


The projects span the entire lifecycle, from the development phase through engineering, construction, commissioning, and startup of operations. The focus is on distributed energy systems for behind-the-meter applications serving commercial, public, and industrial users through microgrid implementations.


During the development phase, the candidate will actively contribute to defining the concept design and be responsible for basic design through detailed design and project execution. The Engineering Lead will collaborate with the Project Team, which includes internal resources as well as external consultants, suppliers, and contractors. The successful candidate should have a "solutions-oriented" mindset and the ability to manage complex, multi-faceted projects from end to end with an integrated project perspective.


This position will report to the SVP of Construction & Operations.



What you’ll do:


The Power Systems Engineer will be responsible for coordinating the design effort and providing technical guidance for project performance. Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and coordinate the engineering design process, including: Performing due diligence during feasibility studies. Reviewing designs for permitting, detailed design and optimizing for operations. Reviewing shop drawings and IFC drawings from the Engineer of Record and service providers.

  • Conduct site visits and attend customer meetings to support project development

  • Provide engineering input to inform the financial model and business case documentation for new opportunities that are submitted to the Project’s Investment Committee

  • Plan the project's design activities from conceptual design (in collaboration with Solution Architects) through to issue for construction documents

  • Prepare and coordinate estimates for electrical equipment and installation (in collaboration with Solution Architects and Contract Management)

  • Contribute to risk assessments throughout the project lifecycle, from development to operations and maintenance

  • Develop and regularly update design guidelines for RFPs issued by the organization or external partners

  • Plan and execute engineering activities for RFPs related to services, including technical package preparation, bid evaluation, and contract negotiations

  • Directly or indirectly manage all engineering service contracts and the Engineer of Record

  • Participate in the management of supply, construction, and commissioning contracts with external providers

  • Ensure quality of project execution, including review of supplier quality control plans and management of non-conformities

  • Coordinate with the Project Manager to assess engineering design changes and verify change orders

  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of technical documentation for external stakeholders

  • Support commissioning, startup, and turnover of projects to operations and maintenance

  • Prepare technical proposals for RFP responses and support the deal development team

  • Communicate project status to team members and other stakeholders

  • Participate in the evaluation and qualification of partners, including contractors, vendors, and service providers

  • Implement lessons learned, share best practices, and continuously improve design methodologies and technical specifications


Time Allocation

  • 25% - Support Project Development

  • 60% - Design, Construction, and Commissioning Phase

  • 5% - Operation and Maintenance Service Phase

  • 10% - Others (no project specific task)


What you’ll need:


The successful candidate will be an adept problem-solver familiar with end-to-end systems, customer-oriented thinker with at least 6 years’ experience in the design of central plant/utilities and power generation multifaceted facilities utilizing various types of distributed energy resources. Demonstrate solid coordination, analytical and practical skills combined with the eagerness to grow these skills as our organization grows. The candidate will thrive as team player in a fast-paced, constantly evolving work environment, exhibiting a positive, collaborative demeanor across functional – technical and non-technical – teams.


 

  • Up to 25% U.S. and international (Canada) travel for site visits, internal meetings, and supplier visits.

  • This role requires seasoned professional experienced in design of central plants, micro grid, cogeneration plant and utility.

  • Experience in Project/Corporate Finance

  • Strong knowledge of HSE, OSHA, ISO, and other regulatory agency standards and requirements applicable to central plant and microgrid.

  • Expertise in distributed multi-technology energy systems such as PV, BESS, gas engine, fuel cell, microgrid controls, work management, and asset management systems.

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in a role within energy projects.

  • Ability to handle a high volume of complex matters at the same time, strong analytical skills, stress resistance.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills for effective engagement with different stakeholders

  • Excellent customer relationship and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to independently propose project scope and negotiate partnerships.


Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited institution.

  • Professional Engineer License is required

  • Master’s degree in engineering will be considered a plus
