ST Pay Rate: $59 - $64/ hr ST


Work Location: Surry, VA


Per Diem: $100/day

Location: Surry Power Station (SPS) – Subsequent License Renewal ProjectsExperience Level: Senior (10+ Years)

Position Overview

The Surry Power Station (SPS) Projects Team is seeking a highly experienced Civil/Structural Design Engineer to support large, complex capital projects associated with the Subsequent License Renewal program.

This role requires strong technical competency in piping support design, rigging analysis, civil/structural evaluations, and design verification activities performed in accordance with the U.S. commercial nuclear fleet Standard Design Process.

The successful candidate will provide engineering support across major station modifications and component replacement projects while ensuring full compliance with nuclear regulatory and design basis requirements.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Prepare nuclear engineering documentation including:

    • Engineering Design Change Packages

    • 10 CFR 50.59 Screens and Applicability Reviews

    • Engineering Assessments

  • Provide technical support for:

    • Piping replacements

    • Floor loading evaluations

    • Rigging and heavy load analysis

    • Large capital project activities

  • Review and approve:

    • Procedures

    • Drawings

    • Calculations

    • Contingency plans

    • Training materials

  • Perform field walkdowns and provide direct support during implementation activities

  • Conduct design verifications and Owner’s Reviews of Engineering Change Packages

  • Attend station scheduling and outage coordination meetings

  • Coordinate engineering segments of complex projects to meet long-range development schedules

Top 3 Required Skills

  1. Experience with equipment design and procurement specification document development

  2. Qualified in Engineering Design Change Process (Standard Design Process IP-ENG-001)

  3. Prior commercial nuclear industry experience

Required Technical Experience

  • Design and fabrication of piping supports

  • Rigging analysis for heavy loads

  • Civil/structural engineering analysis and component design

  • 10 CFR 50.59 Screen preparation and review

  • Design verification and change package review

  • Experience supporting large-scale capital projects

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Familiarity with standard civil engineering codes

  • Experience writing equipment specifications

  • Experience supporting large, complex nuclear projects

  • Crane replacements, feedwater heater replacements, major component replacements

  • Building modifications and large piping systems

Soft Skills / Professional Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Meeting facilitation and presentation capability

  • Ability to lead and collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with all levels of management

  • Strong organizational and scheduling coordination capability

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of design engineering experience

Education Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering (ABET accredited required)

  • M.S. preferred

  • Equivalent years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
