Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Design Engineer

Location: Decatur, AL

Some Remote work (2 Days a week is acceptable -  2 weeks on site is desired)

Pay Rate: Need candidate's request (non-exempt)

Start: October 10, 2025

Duration: One year (extension possible)


Job Description:

Provides technical leadership, coordination, and review for a small staff of multidisciplinary engineers, specialists, technicians, and/or contractor personnel within an I&C engineering work group. Serves as the primary point of contact for the group regarding new or modified tasks, assigns work to junior staff, and ensures designated completion dates are met.


In a working-lead capacity, plans, develops, coordinates, and directs the day-to-day technical aspects of large and important engineering projects, or several smaller projects with complex features. Provides input to the Engineering Manager on work in progress, technical issues requiring escalation, and workplace matters.


As a working technical lead, performs engineering assignments as needed and may be assigned senior-level engineering work as part of day-to-day responsibilities in addition to lead duties. Applies extensive knowledge of electrical and I&C engineering design principles and practices across a broad range of assignments. Exercises independent engineering judgment and decision-making on design problems and methodologies.


At the request of the Engineering Manager, represents the work group in meetings to plan, schedule, and coordinate projects; resolve technical issues; or report and obtain information.


Scope of Responsibility:

  • Provides technical leadership but does not carry direct supervisory administrative responsibilities such as performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, hiring decisions, leave approval, promotions, or pay changes.


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program, plus appropriate continuing education.

  • Several years of experience in electrical and I&C engineering design projects, preferably within a plant environment.

  • At least one year of experience within a nuclear organization required.


Mandatory Requirement:

  • Must have held previous (within the past 10 years) TVA Nuclear Design Qualification ESP103.0-ENG Design Qualification.
