Position Details:

We are seeking a Microgrid Project Manager for a remote opportunity with a preference for candidates located on the West Coast. and available to travel as needed for meetings, with expenses reimbursed per GSA per diem guidelines.


About the role:

Seeking a highly energized, motivated professional to lead the project execution for our energy systems and distributed energy microgrids. and have at least 10+ years of experience managing complex energy projects. The candidate must be comfortable in managing complex and multi-stakeholder projects and must have experience with power generation, microgrid, central plant, and associated equipment and contractors. This will be a “solutions-oriented” and “end-to-end” position to manage internal and external stakeholders with the goal of protecting our business model, investments, and project success. The scope spans the project lifecycle, with initial support on the development phase leading through the engineering, construction, commissioning, and start of the operation period.


The assigned projects for this role are distributed energy systems and microgrids situated behind the meter for commercial, public, and industrial users. During the execution of the project, the project manager will coordinate a team composed of client employees along with external consultants, suppliers, and contractors.


This position will report to the SVP of Construction & Operations and will offer significant visibility with our senior leadership in the company, our investors, and our clients.


What you’ll need: The successful candidate will be an adept problem-solver and a customer-oriented systems thinker with at least 10+ years’ experience managing construction projects for complex energy infrastructure. Specific experience in behind-the-meter / distributed energy projects (e.g., microgrids) for commercial, public, and industrial users is strongly desired. Qualified candidates should demonstrate proven skill in project management including both analytical and practical problem solving, with the eagerness to grow more skills as our organization grows.

  • Must reside in the US

  • Possible U.S. and Canada travel for internal meetings and supplier visits

  • Seasoned professional experience in project management for central plant, microgrid, cogeneration plants, and utility-scale projects

  • Experience managing or direct involvement in at least 3 projects in a key project team role under a project / corporate finance structure.

  • A proven track record of negotiating and managing different contract models and structures, such as EPC, LSTK, design-build, progressive design, guaranteed maximum price, and project finance.

  • Strong knowledge of HSE, OSHA, ISO, and other regulatory agency standards and requirements applicable to central plants and microgrids

  • Expertise in distributed multi-technology energy systems as PV, BESS, gas engines, fuel cells, microgrid controls, work management, and asset management systems

  • Strong oral and written communication skills for effective engagement with different stakeholders

  • Excellent customer relationship building and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to independently propose project scope and negotiate partnerships


Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, or Environmental, Electrical Engineering

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)® Certification preferred


What you’ll do:

During the project development phase (time allocation 20%):

  • Support the business development teams with project due diligence regarding green- and brown-field projects, including the project documentation review and preparation of risk assessment, feasibility study, investment memorandum, schedule, and constructability CapEx / OpEx budgeting

  • Develop a procurement strategy to ensure the project energy system and associated work packages are defined and allocated to key suppliers and contractors, including the necessary scouting and validation

  • Contribute to M&A related to transit and fleet solutions

  • Define the commercial framework and requirements for supply and construction agreement for the procurement process

  • Ensure commercial and technical negotiations of supply and construction agreements include the flow down from the project document and identify any gaps


During the project execution phase — design, construction, and commissioning (time allocation 60%):

Teach and enforce company policies, procedures, and project documentation.

  • Enforce safety and environmental requirements through monitoring and reinforcing of safety initiatives, including the stop-work authority.

  • Enforce corporate sustainability, create shared value, and meet innovation and digitalization requirements via monitoring process efficiencies, procedure implementation, and the project KPIs

  • Represent the interests and reputation of client in a professional manner, managing relationships and project communication with customers, suppliers, contractors, landowners, authorities, communities, stakeholders, and senior management.

  • Create and customize project specifications for the supply and construction work package to meet plant- or customer-specific requirements.

  • Perform the procurement process for suppliers and contractors (e.g., scouting, commercial terms, RFPs, proposal evaluation, exhibit preparation, contract negotiations, claims)

  • Ensure the proper execution of construction and supply agreements by supporting the review and negotiation process of all contracts and exhibits.

  • Lead and guide the management of Construction and Supply Agreements, thereby ensuring compliance during project execution in accordance with the project governance in the event of any changes or claims.

  • Prepare and update weekly and monthly reporting, project schedules, cash flows, risk registers, etc for the duration of project execution

  • Represent, facilitate, and provide information on behalf the project team during any type of compliance audits

  • Develop and implement a general quality assurance and quality control plan (“QA/QC Plan”) for monitoring project execution

  • Coordinate the commissioning process and witness-testing per contractual requirements with vendors, contractors, and clients

  • Manage the project closure and the close-out report with the relevant lesson learned


During the operation and maintenance service phase (time allocation 10%):

  • Coordinate with the supplier and the contractor to perform the punch list

  • Support the O&M team to process any major warranty claims

  • Support the construction and supply contractual closing, including any disputes or claims

  • Support the O&M team during external and internal audits.


Other (time allocation 10%):

  • Support the deployment and implementation of clients’s proprietary software and digital platform to manage project execution

  • Develop and implement service performance KPIs and dashboards for the stakeholder

  • Develop and update operative procedures for the execution phase

  • Coach, train, and mentor the assigned resources in the project team to promote continuous skills improvement

  • Provide mutual and peer feedback within and outside the project team and their functional supervisors to foster career development and employee growth within the company

  • Contribute to innovation and digitization initiatives that increase efficiency and safety in project execution

  • Contribute and participate in special projects related to airports, transits, digital platforms, and product development
