Process Engineer

Work Location: Hybrid (with as-needed travel to Oak Ridge, Tennessee and/or Santa Clara, California)

Rate: Not Defined / need Candidate’s requested rate

Hours: 40+



The required qualifications are as follows:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field

  • 7+ years of experience in chemical engineering or a closely related discipline

  • Experience designing, developing, and validating chemical process systems through multiple lifecycle stages

  • Ability to develop process flow sheets, heat and material balances, P&IDs, and equipment specifications

  • Strong technical writing skills; ability to produce documentation suitable for regulatory filings


Position Details: 

  • Conduct design, development, prototyping, and validation work on chemical separation subsystems including pyro-processing, off-gas separation, and waste immobilization

  • Define system and unit process requirements and validation methodologies; establish performance criteria, test protocols, and prototyping equipment

  • Develop technical parameters and deploy and operate test systems to refine system design and operation

  • Complete equipment sizing and specifications; develop instrument process data specifications

  • Develop process flow sheets and heat and material balances using process simulation tools

  • Develop and maintain process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)

  • Generate documentation to guide fabrication, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of subsystems

  • Serve as technical lead through multiple facility lifecycle stages

  • Generate technical documentation for inclusion in regulatory filings

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with facility design, unit process equipment, and licensing teams


Strongly Preferred:

  • Proficiency with process simulation tools such as AspenTech, ChemCAD, Promax, or similar; familiarity with Python or Excel-based engineering analysis

  • Experience deploying or scaling processes from pilot plant to industrial scale — greenfield and/or brownfield facilities

  • Commercial or government nuclear industry experience

  • Familiarity with pyro-processing, off-gas separation, or waste immobilization processes

  • Experience generating documentation for nuclear licensing or other highly regulated environments

  • Comfort operating as a technical lead in a startup or fast-paced engineering environment
