Multiple Projects


Work Location:  Los Alamos National Laboratory Los Alamos, NM


Start: Immediately


Rate: is open and non-exempt 


Hours: 40+ per week (4/10s with overtime) Shift work with shift multiplier possible.


Per diem: Expenses in accordance with travel policy:

  • Lodging

    • $110/day for Days 1-60

    • $60.50/day for Days 61+

  • M&IE

    • $68/day for Days 1-30

    • $37.40/day for Days 31+

*Escalated each Fiscal Year


Mob / Demob: Reimbursed in accordance with travel Policy


Trip home: 1 per month after 90 days of service

Physical Requirements: 



As an RCT 3, you will provide direct support to field implementation of the Radiation Protection Program through the execution of radiological job coverage, workplace surveys, and documentation of radiological data. In addition, you will assist and mentor less experienced RCTs in the execution of radiation monitoring, contamination control, emergency response, and the implementation of radiation work permits and other work documents.



Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience in providing radiological support for moderate and high hazard radiological work with minimal direction

  • Experience in responding to radiological events (CAM alarm, ARM alarm, personal contamination, etc.)

  • Demonstrated experience in the evaluation of radiological air sampling results

  • Experience and/or knowledge of radiological work planning, including recommendation of appropriate work controls to supervision

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment required for workplace and job hazards, including anti-contamination clothing and respiratory protection

  • Ability to use stairways, fixed ladders, and ladders up to 6 feet. Must be physically able to work in demanding environments

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 35 pounds


RCT 4 - 


In addition to what was outlined at the RCT 3 level, you may serve as the primary Radiation Protection point of contact for assisting in job planning, coordinating resources, and resolving issues for radiological work activities. You will also provide technical leadership of less experiences RCTs, ensuring compliance with radiological procedures.



In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Experience in a lead radiation control technician role, to include assigning radiological work, implementing radiological work procedures, issue resolution, and supervision of radiological work practices

  • Experience mentoring/training less experienced Radiation Control Technicians in the use of radiological instruments and the conduct of radiological work

  • Advanced experience in planning radiological work, to include the development and/or approval of radiological work permits

  • Advanced experience in providing support for moderate and high hazard radiological work independently

  • Advanced experience in responding to radiological events (CAM alarm, ARM alarm, personnel contamination, etc.)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills


Education/Experience Requirements


RCT 3 - Position requires a high school diploma and a minimum 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.



RCT 4 - Position requires a high school diploma and a minimum 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.



Physical Requirements: Must be capable of climbing, walking, kneeling, bending, and lifting as part of daily job responsibilities. Ability to lift a minimum of 35 – 60 lbs.


RCTs must be physically able to enter radiologically controlled environments, be able to wear respirators when necessary, lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and navigate tight spaces. RCT will be working in a functioning facility, and routine trips inside the protected area is expected.



Use of protective clothing, including safety glasses, radiological anti-contamination clothing, and respiratory protection required.
