Sr. Radiation System Design Engineer (Monitoring Radiation)

Work Location: Onsite in Torrance, CA (occasional travel to Utah)

Rate: Not Defined / need Candidate’s requested rate

Per Diem: GSA Rates

Hours: 40+



The required qualifications are as follows:

  • Senior-level radiation monitoring / health physics instrumentation engineering experience 

  • Direct hands-on experience installing/building radiation monitoring equipment on a new-build plant (e.g. Vogtle or similar) required 

  • Candidates from an existing operating plant background only will NOT be considered 

  • Familiarity with continuous air monitors (CAMs), noble gas monitoring, area gamma, and tritium monitoring

  • Comfortable working directly with health physics and licensing teams 

  • Willing to work heavily in-person across both Torrance, CA and Utah sites; role is not remote-friendly


Position Details: 

Sr. Radiation Monitoring Specialists will own radiation monitoring system scope from design through startup for an advanced nuclear reactor build. Candidates must have hands-on experience physically building/installing radiation monitoring equipment on a new-build plant (e.g., Vogtle-type experience) - candidates from an existing operating plant background only will not be considered. 



Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with plant, health physics, and licensing teams on radiation monitoring requirements

  • Write requirements and specifications for continuous air monitors (CAMs), noble gas monitoring, area gamma, and tritium monitoring systems     


Project Phasing:

  • Months 1-2 (Torrance): Requirements development, high-level procurement, radiation monitoring design

  • Months 3-4 (Torrance): Detailed final design and procurement

  • Months 5-6 (Torrance): Final integration and cold commissioning - integrate radiation monitoring into skids (no longer floating equipment).

  • Months 7-8 (Utah): Disassembly, transport, reassembly, integration testing, commissioning, handover, and hot startup
