20/20: A Clear Vision For BCP

With 2019 nearly behind us, and thinking about the year that was, the challenges we faced, and the growth and change we’ve experienced, I leave the year more excited, more determined, and more certain that we are on the right path forward. The work and commitment displayed in 2019 will drive us in 2020 and create opportunities for BCP to be a positive and influential player in the nuclear industry for years to come.

2019 as we all know was not without significant challenges and stress. From revamping our entire organizational structure, to developing new internal capabilities and dealing with changing regulations and requirements, we came through each difficulty to be better than we were before. I am so proud to be with you as we work and fight together to create something special. If 2019 has shown us anything, it has shown us that we are battle-tested, and are a true team. Adversity has a way of bringing the best out of great people and I believe it has done that for us. 2019 was a necessary step and because of your efforts, commitment and dedication, we have established the foundation of Greatness for our company.

I don’t use the term Greatness lightly. When I think about Greatness, it’s not in terms of revenues or profits; those are outcomes of being great. What Greatness is to me is living and being true to ourselves: being true to our core values, making the choice each and every day to grow, learn and to help. We must continue to be supportive of one another, to over deliver on our commitments and promises, to do the right thing for our clients and each other even when it may be easier to go in a different direction. Greatness will be defined by what we do day-in and day-out. In 2019, we established the foundation, in 2020 we begin to build on that foundation and create Greatness.

“Greatness is not a function of circumstance. Greatness, it turns out, is largely a matter of conscious choice, and discipline.” ― Jim Collins, Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap… and Others Don’t

So, what did we accomplish in 2019, and how did we establish this foundation for Greatness? By focusing on three simple themes:

INTENTIONALITY.

In 2019 we worked to identify new and innovative specialty service areas. Out of that effort, we will establish a new specialty service area, Cyber Security Services that will be led by Henry Walters.

We created and delivered on a first-of-kind engineering analysis to extend the inspection periods for Containment Tendons and received the first ever NRC approval for two clients to extend the inspections, saving our clients millions of dollars over the life of the plant.

SHIFT.

We have worked to rethink how we do business. From team consulting to streamlining and rethinking internal processes, deploying our project management and oversight process, improving ongoing communications, and building an organization with an infrastructure that can ensure we deliver on our commitments.

We came together during our transition in accounting with personnel and systems to keep information and the system working. From the administrative team to our client leads, everyone came together to make it work.

GROUP THINK.

We have made the shift to a team approach to selling, supporting and growing our business. We will continue in 2020 focusing on improving communications, improving visibility, and building internal trust to help deliver world-class experiences for our clients.

We have begun the integration of key areas with ESG to provide better service to our external and internal clients.

We have developed a learning process that will be used to leverage great ideas and make improvements to keep internal and external projects and processes.

“Good is the enemy of great. And that is one of the key reasons why we have so little that becomes great. We don’t have great schools, principally because we have good schools…Few people attain great lives, in large part because it is just so easy to settle for a good life.”
― Jim Collins, Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap… and Others Don’t

BCP’s mission is to provide sustainable, long-term operational performance solutions for Electric Generators and Utilities. This starts with a forward-thinking mentality and developing innovative approaches, identifying and successfully implementing innovations that will help our clients drive operational cost down and performance up.

Our challenge moving forward is to continue our pursuit of helping each other and each client to become better than they were the day before. What we will do and accomplish isn’t common or easy. It is special. It is Great.

2020 will be an exciting time to be part of the BCP family. Thank you for being a major part of our success.

My wish for you and your family in 2020 is a year of growth, love and happiness. Merry Christmas and may God continue to bless you in 2020.

Merry Christmas,

Greg Lormand
